The value of perspective when growing your consultancy

The value of perspective when growing your consultancy

Today I’m running my quarterly Breakthrough Day for consultancy owners.

I know why I created it, but its value keeps revealing itself each time I run it.

It exists as part of what Consultancy Growth Club provides to Performance-Lifestyle Consultancy founders who want to build and grow their own style of consultancy.

The goal of this type of consultancy is to create a high-impact, high-value business that facilitates your lifestyle.

In short, you work with the clients you choose, in a rhythm that suits your life, and charge fees that reflect the unique value you provide to your ideal clients.

When you’re growing this type of consultancy, there’s one important ingredient that is often overlooked.

That ingredient is perspective.

Getting outside your consultancy

There’s a strange feeling you’ll have experienced when running your consultancy.

You can see what you need to do to grow, but at the same time, it’s not flowing as easily as you know it should. Something is holding you back and blocking the flow.

Even in areas where you excel at seeing things clearly for your clients, things often aren’t as clear when you look at your own business.

There’s a saying we reference regularly in the community that sums it up perfectly.

“You can’t read the label when you’re inside the jar.”

To grow your business, you have to get out of it from time to time, look back in, and make everything easier to read.

That’s the outside perspective Breakthrough Day is designed to provide. A day out of your business, looking back in at it.

A second perspective

Each of us sees the world through a slightly different lens.

Even those who share many of your experiences and views will have their own nuances in how they interpret what they see.

Others see things differently from you, and whether those differences are significant or subtle, you can learn from them.

When you’re working towards a stretch goal, it’s always valuable to get the perspective of others on what you’re working on.

And when that perspective comes from someone with the context of shared experience, working towards a similar goal, it becomes even more valuable.

They can see how far you’ve come because they’ve walked a similar path. Perhaps you’re facing an obstacle they’ve already overcome, and their experience will help you move through that phase faster. Or you’re at a fork in the road and unsure which direction to take. They can give you a better idea of where each path leads, to help you decide.

That’s one of the great benefits of community: outside perspectives that help you see what you can’t, or would take much longer to learn alone.

Bringing it all together

We are also at the beginning of a new age in business: the Age of AI.

For the Performance-Lifestyle Consultancy owner, AI introduces another kind of thinking partner. One that can hold the full context of you, your business and your market.

It will never replace lived human experience, but it can hold and synthesise vast amounts of information. That gives us a third highly valuable perspective: an always-on, continually developing perspective with endless patience.

When you take your unique experience, step outside your business, gain the perspective of others, and multiply that with AI, you create a powerful combination.

It increases the value you can provide to your ideal clients because you are no longer relying on one perspective alone.

These are the three perspectives Consultancy Growth Club is designed to harness for Performance-Lifestyle Consultancy founders.

  • Breakthrough Days for the outside perspective.

  • Community for the perspective of others.

  • MyGrowthPilot to harness the power of AI.

For members, these are here to lean into.

And if you’re not a member, but this feels like the kind of space you’d value, you’re welcome to join us at the next Breakthrough Day on Friday 18 September.

It’s the best way to experience these perspectives first-hand.
